The main purpose of this project to analyse the site and then to design a new building for the North East Film Archive collection in Newcastle which should emerge as an integration of its two current buildings in Middlesbrough and York. It will focus not only on the information collection and storage but also on its presentation. It is to become a visitor attraction (“shop window”) to demonstrate the NRFTA collection and services. This building should be orientated to the wide variety of users and encourage them to keep their homemade footage. It should attract visitors and provoke their curiosity in order to encourage them to find out more. The project must look to the future possible development.

CONCEPT: STRAIGHT TO THE PAST / BACK TO THE FUTURE.

The concept is based on the memory layers interpretation. The building should create two different impressions of outdoor areas (in the inner yard space and the surrounding areas). It should represent the different levels of consciousness.

Create a flexible and joyful space by using core memory paradox interpretation and historical elements in order to encourage people to save and to create their footage.
